   What is CAP?
Introduction

CAP stands for Common Aftermarket Protocol, a set of standard messages to improve the electronic exchange of information between manufacturers and buying groups in the European Automotive Aftermarket.

The CAP Messages

Buying groups, part manufacturers, CLEPA and Figiefa combined forces to develop and implement the CAP messages, which are based on the CLEPA/Figiefa messages. Their format is simplified and suitable for internet based techniques like XML.

There are seven CAP-messages:

  • Availability request
  • Availability response
  • Order
  • Order response
  • Despatch advice
  • Invoice
  • Price catalogue

Advantages of CAP

  • The CAP standard is an open standard which can be implemented by any company in the automotive aftermarket.
  • The CAP standard is an initiative of four leading European buying groups and 34 part manufacturers, who committed to implement and promote the messages.
  • The CAP messages do not require knowledge of and experience with the CLEPA/Figiefa format.
  • The CAP messages are based on XML and internet techniques and are therefore a reliable technology even in the future.
  • The CAP messages are stripped of all unnecessary complexity.
  • The CAP messages' focus is on "functionality" which means less complexity and faster integration.
